my parents meet for lunch sometimes.

last week, i called my mom during the day to ask her something quick and she said, "oh honey, i'm about to meet your dad for lunch." maybe it's because i'm a newlywed giving lots of thought to what makes a good marriage (and my parents have an amazing going on thirty-one year marriage), but this stopped me in my tracks. they eat breakfast and dinner most days together and yet, when it works, every now and then, they meet for lunch. when they were newlyweds, they would meet at the city market downtown with packed lunches. i love that.

ryan, see you for lunch in thirty some years and lots of times in between.

(photo is not my parents, but super cute and in a kitchen! can be found here.)

cup of water in the middle of the night.

as i mentioned yesterday, i've been pouring over your responses to the t&f survey (if you haven't taken it, please do, it's completely anonymous and i'd be so so grateful!!) many of you mentioned that you love that t&f has gone beyond our wedding to talk about married life. i'm new at this too, but since it sounds like a bunch of us are/will be newlyweds, definitely happy to keep the conversation going!

and you have perfect timing because i've been hugely honored to be featured as a guest blogger on two blogs in the past few weeks. first up, i was a part of the where we blog from series on ill seen, ill said, thank you so much jane! you can see the rest of our house here, here and here!

today, i'm so honored to be a part of the real people in love series on adventures in love & happiness. thank you so much nicole!

one thing i mention in that post, is that i love the quote "marriage is a cup of water in the middle of the night." it's such a beautiful, simple picture of what i've found marriage is really all about. and, funny enough, last night our marriage was about a cup of water (and, roast beef sandwich) in the middle of the night. ryan flies at odd and really long hours. he hadn't been that hungry at dinner, but as we were trying to fall asleep, he figured out he was hungry and thirsty. it's those little things that end up counting so much.

can you fix this?

so, tonight i went downstairs to say hi to ryan who is studying really hard. i saw the card i left him last week when i went to dc and asked if he keeps all my cards (what a classic wife question :). so, he pulls them out and i'm going through them (from the past three years!) and it made me smile so much.

there are a lot of great ones, but the one above, by david shrigley is my favorite. it's my favorite because it's so accurate: i would ask ryan casually if he could fix something like mountains being on the ceiling. it's also inaccurate, because ryan would proceed to say yes and help me immensely.

ordinary friday update.

so, my ordinary friday got a whole lot more wonderful when my sweet husband and I headed to the beach for a walk. it's so funny to think that in a few weeks, this beach will be over run with spring breakers, but for now, it was just us.
