happy friday!

happy friday! boy, this week has been busy! that said, the navy gave us a wonderful surprise and ryan doesn't have to do a night flight tonight... so, we're thinking date night instead! tomorrow we're taking a really fun road trip with dear friends (will tell you all about it next week!) and sunday we'll go to our wonderful church and have a little sabbath (by the way, i'm so excited to read this book)

check out this amazing house in berlin! for 100 years it was a laundry house and this frame company owner & restaurant owner totally restored it. what a labor of love.

i never watched the tv show, but i LOVED the first movie and the second honestly almost looks better. i am so excited! watch the two trailers here and here. (new one just released!)

homecoming!!

the story behind this photo is so amazing it is hard for me to put into words.

first, introductions: the guy in the camo is greg, an amazing marine just back from serving in afghanistan for seven months. the pretty girl on the left is my friend louisa, amazing mom and personal hero of mine. and the precious baby girl greg is holding is caroline, their baby girl, that in THIS photo he is meeting for THE FIRST TIME.

see, greg and louisa are this amazing couple, who have gone through so much in the past seven months, all while greg was serving our country in afghanistan and louisa was oh, you know, giving birth to caroline, taking care of the quite the dog, working on her MBA and being all around incredible. for perspective, here are all the holidays they get to celebrate now that greg is home safe and sound:

earrings.

so, reader molly is a newlywed in san diego and emailed me about ways to keep her earrings in line (amen, it's a good day if i find a match!) and turns out, there are some super cute ways. above is my favorite, mainly because i'm head over heels for reclaimed barn wood and this is so simple and pretty. that said, i found some similar ones it slightly different styles, here and here. i think my dream set up would be the barn wood frame above with this cute bowl from anthropologie for all my studs:

if you don't want them out and about, i think nothing beats a good old tackle box!

pasta and tomatoes.

this has become my favorite new simple dinner:

we try a new brand of organic/good looking pasta sauce, some whole wheat pasta and a good bottle of red wine (my sweet friend got me into malbecs recently and they've changed how i feel about red wine), and voila:

there's just something so fresh and easy about this. my sweet husband made this last night and walking in the door from yoga to this just made my monday night. got any pasta sauces i should know about? i still want to try making this sauce from scratch-- looks amazing!!

i think i need this.

feeling like i'm moving at glacier speed today and wish things were as simple as this lovely cup of tea on a window sill. headed to yoga, then dinner with my husband, cause that always puts things right back where they're supposed to be.

d.c. hotel.

so, before marrying ryan, i lived in dc for three years with an amazing job. i was incredibly blessed when we got married and was able to keep that job, even though i moved to p'cola to be with my sweet husband. it also means i go back to dc about every other week. and today, it means i get to tell you about my favorite hotel in washington dc: the dupont hotel.
