ellie's first trip to the beach.

in yesterday's post i mentioned we took ellie on a little getaway to the outer banks. we were excited to show the little one the beach for the first time -- something we both love & something we're sure to be close to so long as ryan is in the navy.
so, we stayed tucked inside when the winds were quite blustery on saturday (pointing from the windows out at the ocean), but sunday we were determined to show her the beach for real before we left, so despite a bit of a wind, we ventured off. as you can see if you look closely, she was not thrilled to be out in the elements. the photos we imagined, "little one, thrilled to see the ocean" were actually "little one, hysterically crying wondering if she'd lost the parental lottery."
the whole first trip was filled with moments like this. ryan got a gash in his toe before we even left our house trying to get things packed up; we forgot critical baby items (despite bringing an absurd amount with us); she cried so hard at one point saturday night we thought we might get kicked out of our room & resorted to rocking her, in the stroller, in her car seat, in the bathroom with the shower on full blast & the fan (white noise we hoped!); instead of venturing out for dinner saturday night, we ordered pizza in and enjoyed some red wine & chocolate chip cookies i did pack (mama win!) while ellie slept for all of 5 minutes; after our failed trip to the beach, we joked we'll be on a family vacation in 13 years and ellie will say, "i don't know why, but i don't really like the beach" & ryan & i will have to admit to her we may have scarred her with the first trip...
all in all, it was REALLY different than our anniversary trip here two years ago, but we love our growing family, are learning a lot, and thankfully there will be many more trips to the beach for our little family.

I love that you keep it real! You have a sweet little family :)
Mary, thanks for being so honest! I just had a baby girl in November, so I'm with you. I meant to comment and say congrats earlier! I love the name y'all chose.
sounds like an adventure, but good memories, right?! :) still looks like an amazing time though!
