family photos: the real us.
this past weekend, my sweet friend kaitlin was in town (more on that in the next post!) & i realized it was the perfect opportunity to do what we literally haven't managed to do since we were at the hospital with ellie -- get a family photo! as you no doubt know, i have a gazillion photos of ellie; many of her with either ryan or me; but not a single one of the three of us since we left the hospital!
& so this weekend we endeavored to do the time honored tradition of getting a family photo. true to form, it was a bit of a mess: only two of us actually got showers (ryan & ellie, i was lucky to have on real clothes!); one of us spit up on the outfit before the photos commenced (ellie); one of us is fascinated with hardwood floors & thus rarely looks up (ellie again); and one of us is quite bossy in situations like this (me...). plus, our house wasn't clean (nice thing is all we needed was our mantle & couch to be cleaned off!).
and yet, as i loaded these photos on my computer & flipped through them, my heart swelled. this is our family. even the outtakes or the silly faces are a part of this season in life & i'm so grateful we captured a bit of that for posterity's sake. i can't wait to look back on these with ellie one day.
