new tradition: home video (literally).

i had one of those lightening bolt ideas: we're going to live in a lot of places (yeah navy!), our family will be growing/changing, and how cool would it be to have a video tour of each of those homes?! so, instead of just static pictures of how we decorated each room, we could actually re-live walking from room to room and narrate what those places & spaces meant to us. i have a wonderful husband, so he told me this was a great idea.

so, this yonkman family tradition is getting kicked off really soon (we only have a few weeks left in this fabulous house!). and, we have this great camcorder we got to capture our wedding -- knowing we'd get use out of it again and sure enough, we are! i'm still new at this navy wife thing, any ideas you all have to remember the places we're stationed? (p.s. clearly, this idea is for anyone, i wish i had a video like this of my childhood home, just seemed especially relevant for military families who move constantly to all corners of the world ;)

I love your blog, it is beautiful! My dad did the home tour with the video camera in 1988 when we moved four hours away from the extended family. We dug it out a few months back and it was such a trip! Great idea!

I've been videoing my apartments since I was in college! I love the idea that I can pull up a video of where I used to live. My husband is a pilot in the Air Force, and I took video of our first house together and plan to do so in all of our houses before we move.

I also have a friend who plans to have family portraits taken in each place they are stationed. So when she lived in New Mexico, her photos featured very NM scenery. I am planning to do the same thing - it's a great idea!

Hi! I'm moving to Pensacola towards the end of September to wait for API to class up. I've been looking online at apartments but have never been to Pensacola. Are there any areas you would recommend for one or two bedrooms? Thanks! I love your blog, its something to look forward to that isn't khakis all day

cait,

great to hear from you and i'm so glad you like t&f! so, the thing is for API you want to live either in perdido (ryan lived in snug harbor and it was great) or downtown (which is fun, lots to do!) -- then if you stay in p'cola for primary/advanced, you'll want to move closer to base! happy to talk more about this with you and i have some upcoming posts that are a guide to p'cola!

thanks for saying hello!!

warmly, mary
