canada honeymoon.

i am so excited about this post! and no, sadly, ryan & i didn't get a second honeymoon (yet), but my sweet friend stirling and her wonderful new husband clem took the most incredible canadian honeymoon i just had to share with you. i love everything about it, but from the very happy newlyweds, some details:

we journeyed to British Columbia, Canada and divided our time between Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, and Whistler. We initially decided to go there after I came upon a NY Times travel article on the Sunshine Coast and the Rock Water Secret Cove Resort, where you walk along a boardwalk suspended in the trees to a private tent cabin with canvas walls that sits on a cliff and overlooks the Pacific Ocean (or an inlet of it). The tents each had a rainwater shower, private balcony, jacuzzi tub, and comfy beds - all made infinitely more comfortable by the windows that zipped open to let the fresh air in! SO, Clem perused their website and found a package that was a STEAL, gave us a chance to visit a few amazing places, and after a few family members gifted us some frequent flyer points, the decision had been made. Some highlights:

Vancouver:
We ate our first meal (lunch) at the bar at Italian Kitchen - after explaining that we were newlyweds, the waitress took our menus, brought us 2 beignets, and sent the chef over to discuss our personalized menu. AWESOME service and yummy food.
Blue Water Cafe and Raw Bar - extensive oyster and scotch menus - this is part of a group of restaurants owned by Top Table - we ate at Araxi in Whistler and ate dessert at Cin Cin on our last night (they have a Michelin rated pastry chef!).
Bike ride around Stanley Park - we rented bikes from Spokes and rode around the perimeter of the park at sunset, right along the water.
Sunshine Coast
We took a ferry to and from the island. Halfmoon bay is one of many coastal towns along the Sunshine Coast and we loved wandering through the towns, relishing in the beauty and getting lots of r&r.
Whistler
We loved fly fishing, the gorgeous waterfall we stumbled upon on the drive back to Vancouver, and the picture from the airplane on the way home that shows the clouds with Mr. Rainer and Mt. Saint Helen's in the background!
