last weekend.

last weekend, one of our dearest friends and his awesome dog, rhino, had us over for a cookout. it was a perfect sunday afternoon with bright blue skies, a gentle breeze and we found some shade under a big tree. we had burgers and on account of me being there, brooks went beyond just meat and had corn on the cob, fruit salad and potato salad. so thoughtful. rhino kept us entertained, and when it got especially hot, he took it upon himself to dig a hole to lay in.

i've been thinking a lot about our time in p'cola, especially because today begins july and that means next month ryan will earn his wings and we'll move to one of six places (have i told you that yet?) (in case you're curious, the possibilities are norfolk, san diego, jacksonville, hawaii, guam and japan, no joke). the past year in p'cola has not only been our first year of marriage, but also my introduction to navy wife life. i really could not be more grateful for ryan and three of his best guy friends here -- they probably don't know it, but they have made such an impact on my year. their sense of humor, stories, friendship and presence in our lives has mattered so much. brooks especially has sort of been our you, me and dupree. only in this version, dupree has an awesome girlfriend, actually has his life together, and doesn't live with us. but like dupree, he makes us laugh on a regular basis and has added a lot to our lives.

he's also among the 2% of male readers who check into t&f from time to time, they include my husband, dad and brooks. i don't even think my own brother knows the name of my blog :)

How does Rhino compare to Oliver? Both in terms of entertainment and amount of fear he inspires in you? I hope Oliver's ahead on the former and behind on the latter! Love you!
