little getaway.

we had the most wonderful little getaway to duck, north carolina this weekend. it is only an hour and a half from norfolk (!!) & absolutely amazing. we stayed at the sanderling -- an authentic, cozy little spot right on the beach. from top photo to bottom, here's a little rundown on our one night getaway:

saturday morning, we woke up bright & early and grabbed bagels at our new favorite spot. an hour or so later, we crossed this gorgeous bridge to the outer banks. then, we pulled up at the sanderling, our room was ready early, so we dropped off our things and then went to a local spot for some clam chowder (what better for lunch near the beach in november?!) refueled, we had to get out on the beach. it was simply breathtaking & i made it my november beach rebellion to at least put my toes in the sand! we took some time to read and nap before our massages (which made me feel like we'd been on vacation for a week). for dinner, we went to a spot SO many people insisted we go and boy were they right. blue point is fabulous. you can see each of our view across the table :) and then my ridiculous butternut squash gnocci & ryan's cornbread fried catfish. somehow, we saved room for a dark chocolate brownie. ryan almost had to carry me out of the restaurant i was so relaxed & happy. turns out, mornings are just as gorgeous on the beach, and even better when you head to duck cottage for a latte (this was all pretty early & i let me sweet husband sleep while i did some exploring!) ryan wakes up & we wanted to squeeze in one last walk on the beach. we were laughing with another couple who was trying to use their camera timer to take a photo, and so they took this sweet photo of us. i know we will look back in fifty years and cherish these photos even more.

can't tell you how tempting to know this little place is so close! happy monday! xo

1) I have been looking all over for a pair of boots like yours in one of the photos toward the top. Mind sharing where they're from?

2) These photos are all so beautiful! I really love going to the beach in off-season. We did this a few times on weekend road trips while we were living in Manhattan, and it was so amazingly peaceful.

3) I always wake up earlier than my husband, too! I hate sleeping in, especially on vacation when there's so much to explore. Plus, it's fun to wake him up with breakfast in bed :)

So glad you had such a fun and relaxing celebration!

Just discovered your blog today. I've been going to Duck, well, since before there was a Duck! The beach front mansion of my childhood is now second house back, and actually quite modest. Duck is magical.
