oh, c'ville.

this weekend, ryan & i went to my favorite place in the world: charlottesville, virginia. i spent 4 of the best years of my life there and honestly, it just feels like home. (quick tangent: my bro was headed back to his college town, bloomington, for the first time in a long time as well, and told me he might just sit on the curb & cry when he got there -- i felt much the same way, it was so good to be back) we somehow squeezed in all of my favorites & saw so many dear friends.

friday night, we (no joke) ate at christian's pizza (infamous) and bizou, one of my very favorites (their meatloaf & mashed potatoes -- two things i order no where else -- have healing powers they are so good). & went to two of my favorite stores of all time, which i'll be sharing tomorrow!

saturday morning, we got up (swung by bodo's bagels, of course) & went to the 6th annual pancakes for parkinson's -- an amazing event that raises money for the michael j. fox foundation for parkinson's research. this was something i was a part of at uva and it was incredible to see how much it has grown -- you can still donate here. (congrats liz & sarah!) that night, we went to the homecoming football game (not the best football, but gorgeous night).

sunday, i had coffee with a friend on the corner & then we headed up to carter's mountain. to me, it isn't fall without carter's mountain apple cider donuts, pumpkins, and the incredible views of c'ville. it was a per-fect weekend & all the better to share it with ryan.

Ryan- Glad to see I wasn't the only one about to call Mary out on her modesty. We all know who deserves a rather large portion of credit for helping Pancakes become what it is today! It was so wonderful seeing you both this weekend; come again soon!!

I love Charlottesville! I spent one weekend there for a wedding and it was fabulous. We accidentally stumbled on Carter Mountain in the Fall and I was instantly in love!

"an event I was a part of at UVA" = an event Mary FOUNDED at UVA. Just FYI

I love seeing college football on women's blogs... so nice to see us kick down stereotypes! (And I know exactly what you mean by "not the best football.") :-)

Mary, I've been reading your blog now for a month or two and was photographing on the Lawn on Saturday so I saw all the Pancakes action. I had no idea you founded that event and that you were in town wandering around that morning too. Good for you! Loved watching the Rachael Ray appearance, by the way.

Mary, you're an amazing (and humble) woman! That's so great to know that your event is carrying on after you and for such a great cause. My grandmother had PD, so a thank you as well for creating the event to raise money for its research.
And those apple cider doughnuts sound so yummy. Did you happen to see this SK post last fall? http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/10/apple-cider-doughnuts/
